in washington hasn't changed much since before christmas, and now we have days to go before the deadline and the nation going over this fiscal cliff. the president is hoping that this afternoon's meeting at the white house with congressional democrat and republican leaders will help break the standoff. both sides continue to play the blame game here. senate majority leader reid attacked house leader boehner for blocking a vote while the gop led house isn't due back until sunday, a day before the deadline to avert the tax increases and spending cuts that could send the nation into recession again. the differences between the two sides, democrats want to raise money on everyone earning more than $250,000 a year. the president offered to up that to $400,000. republicans ejected new taxes, even though the speaker proposed on those earning a million dollars. instead, the gop wants deeper cuts. with the clock ticking, neither side is giving up ground. >> american people i don't think understand the house of representatives is operating without the house of representatives. it's being operated

.0 earthquake and tsunami in march of last year. >>> now to a news alert out of george washington university after police say there was an attempted sexual assault on campus and a series of burglaries. the attack happened in rice haul on tuesday. the burglary took place in the ivory tower dorm yesterday afternoon. the campus has beefed up security near those areas. they have released surveillance photos of two suspects accused of stealing cell phones and laptops from the dorm rooms. >>> a man who worked at the maryland school for the deaf in columbia maryland is facing charges of child sex abuse. investigators say clarence taylor worked as a dorm aide when students slept at the school overnight. he is accused of inappropriately touching three girls. the allegeeled incidents happened between 2008 and 2012 when the victims were just 10, 11 and 12 years old. howard county police are concerned there may be other victims. they want to hear from anyone else who may have been assaulted. >>> some relief could soon be on its way for people living in two northwest d.c. neighborhoods prone to flooding.

. >> reporter: good morning. the tone here in washington hasn't really changed much since before christmas. now, with days to go before going over that so-called fiscal cliff, the president is hoping today's 3:00 meeting here at the white house with democratic and republican leaders will help avoid this standoff. both sides continue to play the blame game though. senate majority leader harry reid attacked house speaker john boehner for blocking a vote on a potential deal while the gop led house isn't due back until sunday, just one day before the deadline to avoid the automatic tax increases in spending cuts that could send the nation into recession. the differences between the two sides remain intact. democrats want to raise taxes on everyone earning more than $250,000 a year although the president has offered to up that to $400,000 in negotiations with boehner. republicans have rejected any new taxes even those the house speaker proposed on people earning morning a million dollars. instead, gop wants deeper spending cuts to address the nation's deficit and with the clock ticking, neither side

'm will thomas. >> i'm shawn yancy. >>> we begin with a frightening of george washington university. someone tried to sexually assault a woman in a restroom. >> police have their hands full with several burglaries all within the last 36 hours. fox 5's audrey barnes has tonight's news alert. >> those burglaries happened in the ivory tower residence hall this afternoon. around the corner in rice hall a female employee was attacked in a third floor bathroom on tuesday. the incidents have triggered a flurry of security alerts across the downtown campus. there's a guard posted at front desk rice hall on i street now after someone tried to sexually assault a female employee in a third floor bathroom. when she walked in, the suspect turned the light out and jumped her. she fought back and he fled. from now on no one can get in or out of the building without a g world card or escort. security has been ramped up, too, at the ivory tower residence hall after police say two girls went from room to room stealing laptops and cell phones. >> these girls just came in. they were caught on the cameras by gw

. >> the president speaking to business leaders in washington. saying he is willing to make a deal. but his point man on fiscal cliff negotiation struck a much different tone. if republicans don't but specifically tax rates on upper earners the white house is ready to go right over the cliff. >> we see there's no prospect to an agreement that doesn't involve those rates going up on the top 2%. >> largely backs the president on those rates. 48% support the plan to raise them on upper earners compared to 32% of leaving rates unchanged. when it comes to government spending, the gop has the edge. to help balance the budget, spending cuts should take precedence over tax hikes, 46 to 30%. and leaders in congress who met with business leaders say they have already offered to raise tax by cutting deductions and the president has yet to counter their proposal. >> i'll be here and available at any moment to sit down with the president if he gets serious about solving this problem. >> it's possible the white house may be bluffing, the administration did order the pentagon to consider the big cuts in military sp
. wind at 20 mile-per-hour at washington. 12 at gaithersburg. 15 in haggerstown. that's a far cry from those 30, 40, 50 mile-per-hour wind gusts that we had. happy to say that things are improving. wind gusts about 17 to 32 mile- per-hour wind gusts. it will continue to improve during the course of the overnight hours and into tomorrow. it will be history at this point. but 32 in d.c., 30 in baltimore, 25 in dulles, 26 in haggerstown. here is a look at the current temperatures. we'll take a look at the wind chill. it's current currently 40 degrees in d.c. 34 in gaithersburg. 43 at fredericksburg and to the west, 32 at winchester and 35 degrees at martinsburg. factor in the temperatures and wind, actually feels pretty much every like it's in the low 30s or 20s. most of the day, that was the story, felt like pretty much into the low 20s everywhere. you got that winter chill in your bones as a result of it. sky conditions not bad. we're going to see some these clouds start to push out. ridge of high pressure will give us a clear night tonight. that will help us as we move into your sunday
